Ben Stokes absence leaves England with problems for 2nd Test against Pakistan

Ben Stokes' absence for the second Test against Pakistan has left England in a selection conundrum going into Thursday's second Test at Southampton. Pakistan were the much better side for a large part of last week's first Test at Old Trafford and, despite a second-innings collapse, were still favourites to win when they reduced England to 117-5 in pursuit of a target of 277. A quad injury meant that the end of England´s 2-1 series win over the West Indies last month — a campaign that marked international cricket's return from the coronavirus lockdown — and the first Test against Pa...

New Zealand Cricket (NZC) on Tuesday announced that all of its home series during the upcoming season, including Pakistan's tour, have been confirmed by the pertinent cricket boards and will go ahead despite the Covid-19 pandemic. In addition to Pakistan's tour of New Zealand, Australia, Bangladesh and the West Indies have also confirmed their visits. NZC chief executive David White said managed isolation arrangements for the visiting teams were still being worked out with officials in Wellington, but the tours would proceed. "I was just on the phone to the West Indies, they;re confirmed, Pakistan is confirmed, Australia and Bangladesh, so (there will be) 37 days of international cricket," he told reporters. White declined to release schedules of the tours until details had been worked out. He said arrangements were likely to follow the model of bio-secure "bubbles" adopted in England for the recent West Indies tour — when teams' accommodat...
